The Convention on Biological Diversity is committed to the importance of biological diversity for the health of all people and the planet. The role of the Convention is to protect biodiversity and ensure that it is used for the benefit of all. The Convention establishes three main goals: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits from the use of genetic resources.
