Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO's efforts - to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. FAO's mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy. FAO’s activities comprise four main areas:

  1. Putting information within reach
  2. Sharing policy expertise
  3. Providing a meeting place for nations
  4. Bringing knowledge to the field
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of FAO acts as Secretariat for the UN Atlas of the Oceans as part of its mission to strengthen global governance and the managerial and technical capacities of members and to lead consensus-building towards improved conservation and utilization of aquatic resources.
