The Gobal Directory of Marine and Freshwater Professionals (GLODIR) has been created for marine science institutions, policy makers, resource managers and any other person or institution with an interest to use it, who has need of locating individuals with expertise in any of the disciplines of marine science.
 
The OceanExpert (Global Directory of Marine and Freshwater Professionals) is a database, developed and regularly maintained by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC). It contains information on over 13,000 ocean and freshwater professionals.
 
The GLODIR was first produced in 1997 by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Data Exchange (IODE), a major programme of the IOC, and its Group of Experts on Marine Information (GE-MIM). GLODIR is a free product however, it may only be used in non-profit capacities.
