Marine parks meet stresses traditional rights, responsibilities for resource use, management

The first International Marine Protected Area Congress (IMPAC 1), held in Geelong, Australia from 23 to 28 October 2005, gathered 760 delegates from 70 countries, and in a Cross-cut Issue session on ""Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities"", called for appropriate legislative regimes to enshrine custodial and traditional rights and responsibilities for marine resource use and management.
