Search for Rare Chinese Dolphin

International news media this week reported the likely functional extinction of the baiji after researchers conducted a massive search for the dolphin without sighting a single animal. NOAA Fisheries Service researchers Bob Pitman, Jay Barlow and Barbara Taylor of the Southwest Fisheries Science Center played a pivotal role in designing and carrying out the six-week expedition that covered over 1,000 miles of the Yangtze River in China.
