The latest round of global climate talks opened on Monday in Poland's capital, Warsaw. The two-week conference marks the 19th meeting of countries party to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which aims to prevent ""dangerous"" human interference with the climate system. In her opening remarks, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christina Figueres told participants that climate change has created an unlevel playing field for future generations. She said the conference, known as COP 19, must deliver on several key areas, including financing for low-carbon development and mechanisms to help vulnerable populations respond to climate change.
