NOAA Ocean and Weather Data On-line

Websites - Institutional website
Available regularly-updated observing system data includes global Argo profiling floats, World Ocean Database 2005, TAO El Nino buoy data, global Summary of the Day meteorological stations, Global Temperature-Salinity Profile Program (GTSPP) data, and U.S. coastal buoy data from National Data Buoy Center (NDBC). Features similar to Google Maps allow the user to smoothly and quickly zoom and pan on the data selection map. The user selects one or more Observing System stations, zooming in or out, or dragging different parts of the map into the viewing area, and then plots the data. The list of variables changes dynanically as a user selects different datasets, and allows the user to select the variables to be plotted. Supported plot types include profile data, property-property plots and time series plots. Data can be downloaded into spreadsheet, GIS and Google Earth compatible formats. Data can be used over the network with new OPeNDAP interfaces (Matlab, Grads, JOA, LAS, etc). New OPeNDAP standards specification for in situ data is based on the underlying Dapper OPOeNDjAP implementation. The web site utilizes JavaScript remote scripting technology, also known as AJAX (Asynchronous Java and XML), the same technology which underlies Google Maps. No Java applets or plug-ins are required.
