Conservation of Lesser Known Tropical Marine Delphinids Workshop - December 2005 Maintained by NOAA
Text-only     Printer-friendly version
Workshop Outline

In this workshop, we intend to compile the current state of knowledge of species which occur in tropical habitats, as delineated by 23°27’N and 23°27’S. Particular emphasis shall be made on the genera Sousa and Orcaella, due to their inshore distribution and concomitant vulnerability, and on regions of the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans, as least information is known from here. It is intended, however, to incorporate as broad a range of tropical species and geographical areas as time allows. Six invited speakers will present comprehensive accounts of current projects in the morning and an afternoon round table discussion will focus on submitted and reviewed abstracts. A format for the afternoon session shall be circulated once abstracts are reviewed. Workshop outputs shall include a summary of conservation issues relevant to inshore tropical delphinids and identification of gaps in our current knowledge. It is also anticipated that this workshop shall assist in establishing communication between those researchers and organisations that work in tropical regions.
