South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is part of the US system of 27 estuarine research areas each typifying a unique assemblage of marine and terrestrial plants, animals and habitats. Research reserves are dedicated to education and research about coastal wetlands and estuaries. South Slough is a 4800-acre drowned river mouth estuary and the largest estuary entirely contained in Oregon.
