Marine diseases: symptoms of an unhealthy earth

News -
Emerging diseases in marine species are sentinels of the ongoing degradation of coastal habitat, and of global climate change, environmental experts told U.S. Senators and Representatives in a briefing.

Harvard Medical School's Center for Health and the Global Environment, the Consortium for Conservation Medicine, the Wildlife Trust and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute sponsored the briefing on climate change and the marine ecosystems on Capitol Hill.

The marine coastal environment is being subjected to increasing pressures from residential, recreational and commercial development. Spills, leaks and accidents associated with oil extraction and transport create additional disturbances.
