NOAA map of Chile Quake Tsunami

The Chile earthquake, magnitude 8.8, caused a tsunami which surged across the Pacific, as the map below shows. The tsunami was not as damaging as initially feared. Emergency warning systems were triggered around the Pacific basin and on oceanic islands.
