An earthquake on 1st November 1755 was followed by a tsunami which had profound effects in several regions of the globe, and particularly in Portuguese coastal areas. Its traces appear in the historical record, and this legacy allows researchers to have a perspective of the areas that could be affected by similar events in the future.
