08 Aug 2014 - 18 Jan 2016
Dear UN Atlas Member,
Next month the Third UN Conference on Small Island Developing States will be taking place in Samoa. The overarching theme is ""The sustainable development of small island developing States through genuine and durable partnerships"" and will contain a series of multi-partnership dialogues, including on Oceans and Seas. Emphasizing the big role Small Island Development States play, 2014 is also the International Year of SIDS.
As part of the post-2015 development agenda, UN Member States have proposed 17 Sustainable Development Goals for consideration by the UN General Assembly later this year. The proposal covers a broad range of issues, including a goal to Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
This month we spotlight information on gender, including on the forthcoming Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries symposium in India and a new report from the World Bank highlighting the gaps faced by women in the workforce.
Take some time to explore the Atlas.
