Dear Atlas Member

The agenda for sustainable oceans advanced over the last month during several global events:
- The UN Climate Summit 2014 considered actions to reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and mobilize political will for a meaningful global agreement in 2015.
- The United Nations General Assembly adopted the proposal of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, paving the way for the possibility of a dedicated goal on oceans, seas and marine resources.
- The UN Conference on Small Island Developing States 2014 held in Apia, Samoa generated more than USD $1.9 billion in partnerships to boost the capacity of this group of countries to achieve sustainable development.

Take a look at this issue of the newsletter where you will find information on recent discoveries, new documents, as well as items on oceans-related events. Learn about World Maritime Day observed every 25 September by the International Maritime Organization, this year looked at IMO conventions: effective implementation.
