In the village of Ban Taa Lane on the coast of southern Thailand, former fishermen 39-year-old Ali Puenglha and 47-year-old Sarawut Bamrung, with a cadre of 13 other men, sat around a coffee table and decided that starting up a canoe rental business would be their ticket to recovery from their losses sustained in the tsunami.
