Environmental history of Southeast Asia, with emphasis on forest and marine ecosystems. Until recently, economic activities had limited and rather stable impact. Excessive levels of logging and fishing have emerged only within the last generation. A major section on Fisheries includes chapters on a demographic history of the marine animals from 1850 - 2000, on the Indonesian archipelago from 900 - 1900, on Singapore as a port city, and on marine conservation in Indonesia.
