Most nations are committed to apply the precautionary and ecosystem approaches to fisheries management, but to what extent are these approaches actually implemented? A new doctoral study examines this issue in several Australian fisheries. In spite of strong policy commitments, implementation of these approaches has been slow or non-existant in some cases.
