Description: Since being a master student my main focus lay on marine biology, a field of science with long tradition in Vienna. An important aspect of my study were field trips to Croatia and Jordan, where ecological assessment methods (i.e. water quality survey techniques and coral diseases assessment, respectively) were introduced. As diploma thesis I took up a project, which combined some very interesting aspects: morphology and osteology, biogeography and phylogeography. Since the beginning the Californian Tidewater Goby (Eucyclogobius newberryi), its peculiar life style in mudflats and highly variable morphological features sparked my interest and gripped my attention and still holds it to the very day. Carrying on studying mostly Californian gobies (i.e. Clevelandia ios, Gillichthys mirabilis and G. seta, Ilypnus gilberti and I. luculentus, Lepidogobius lepidus, Quietula y-cauda, Rhinogobiops nicholsii; some Gymnogobius and Chaenogobius species; Priolepis eugenius) during my PhD thesis was a natural outcome then. My major interests are * biogeography * phylogeography * basic morphology and osteology * eco-management of invasive fish species * population dynamics in metapopulations * bottle-neck and founder events * anthropogenic influences * eco-parasitism and microhabitat partitioning
