Main issues affecting SSFs

Many of the issues affecting small-scale fisheries, their present state and their future are similar to those affecting industrial fisheries (e.g. access rights; overfishing, destructive practices; globalisation and trade; ethics; conflicts and synergies; multiple use of the living resources). A number of them are more specific to the sector (e.g. poor information; part-time employment; integrated rural development; poverty; marginalization; lack of awareness; under-estimated socio-economic contribution;weak institutional set-up and inadequate governance).
