Marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction

See more� (link to page on high seas governance) The term �marine areas beyond national jurisdiction� refers to those areas that are located outside the 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ), or outside the territorial sea, where no EEZ has been declared. This area covers approximately 202 million km2, or an estimated 64% of the world's oceans. Included are open ocean and deep sea environments that are some of the least explored on the planet.
